Bridge Is Broke 3:080:00/3:08
Happy Steel Bridge Day!!! 18 years ago, on the 2nd Saturday of June, we did an all day concert by the Michigan Street Bridge, starring Jackson Browne, who played for free and paid his own expenses for the trip to Sturgeon Bay. He did it to help us save the bridge. And the bridge got saved. And 100s of songs were written, and a music and arts scene grew up around the bridge. And yes, that beautiful monstrosity was a powerful catalyst, and it continues to motivate and inspire the songwriter in me and many others, especially in early June, when the reverberations of that initial concert are felt the strongest, if only in memory.
Saturday, June 10th, Steel Bridge Radio will broadcast live from The Tambourine Lounge in celebration of The Bridge and everything that sprang from the movement to save it. Our dear friend and beloved Steel Bridge artist, James Hall will play a live set, and and I’ll probably play too, and there’ll be some surprise guests TBA.
Tune in any time, and we’ll go on around 7pm.
Last year's announcement:
This year's Songfest, starting at 3:33pm Central Daylight Time, Saturday, June 11, 2022 will be an audio-only event broadcast on STEEL BRIDGE RADIO, celebrating and commemorating the 17 years since the first Steel Bridge Songfest, which was an all-day concert held on another Saturday, June 11th long ago in 2005.
Saturday June 11, 2022 will also be the launch of Steel Bridge Radio Version 2.022.
The new Steel Bridge Radio will feature songs, of course, but also the voices of Steel Bridge artists in a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind the songs.
The new Steel Bridge Radio intends to become a *Perpetual Festival* online.
We are also currently keeping the fires stoked at The Tambourine Collaboratory with
periodic shows featuring more "Music So Fresh, It Hasn't Been Written Yet"
from the Holiday Music Motel and Tambourine Collaboratory creative incubator.
And Steel Bridge Radio will be the online home of it all.
Download the free app and tune in anytime when you miss your favorite Steel Bridge artists! And please be there SATURDAY, JUNE 11th at 3:33pm Central Daylight Time
for Steel Bridge Songfest 2022 and the launch of Steel Bridge Radio 2.022!

Assuming this covid thing will soon “just go away,” let’s boldly proclaim that Steel Bridge 2021 will be our last “virtual-only” Songfest. And the best one yet!
Like with our last three online events, our live hosts will again present a combination of streamed performances & new song videos. Streaming from across the U.S. and Sturgeon Bay’s Holiday Music Motel & Tambourine Collaboratory, the night will bring many nice surprises. (Are we bad people if one of our goals is to make those who miss the show regretful and sad they missed it?) “Music So Fresh, It Hasn’t Been Written Yet” is being written as we speak, and dazzling video works are well on their way to storyboards and locations. And our technical crew and event planners (“the molten core”) are already losing sleep, though not missing it (we actually love doing this). And it’s all for ONE NIGHT ONLY (!!!) of unrestrained entertainment aimed at further aggrandising a bridge? Yes, that's the simple explanation but more information is coming soon, so stay tuned! And please mark Saturday following the 2nd Thursday of June (the 12th) on your calendar!
Enjoy Steel Bridge Radio
